Your guide to navigating The Club House
Hi, I’m Keith. Welcome to The Club House.
I used to spend my days thinking about markets and investment decisions. These days, I’m building a different kind of portfolio: golf experiences, kit testing, and writing, trying to take the game seriously without taking myself too seriously.
I write for everyday golfers who like honest equipment reviews, practical ideas you can use, and thoughtful writing about why this game gets under our skin.
A bit of context
I’m a middle aged, low handicap amateur. I am not a tour player, and I am definitely not blessed with tour swing speed. I live in St Andrews, where golf is part of daily life, so I get plenty of chances to test ideas in the real world.
Being retired means I get to play and practice more than I used to, but I still balance golf with family life. Most of my golf is a mix of rounds, the odd lesson or fitting, and experimenting to see what actually translates to the course.
Where to start
Think of the site like a round of golf and choose the area you want to focus on.
On the Green
Putters, putting, green reading, plus the putter testing framework
On the Tee
Drivers, set-ups, tee shots, strategy
From the Fairway
Fairway woods, hybrids, wedges, approach play
On the Range
Practice, lessons, golf tech, training aids
In the Clubhouse
The mental game, course management, books, stories
What you can expect here
I test a mix of gear and ideas, often through demo loans or on a sale-or-return basis. If something makes the bag, whether that is a club, a piece of tech, or a training aid, it is because I think it makes a difference to my game, and I have chosen to pay for it.
No “this is a game changer, and it is going straight in the bag” line in every review.
When I review putters and clubs, I will almost always include a benchmark comparison, so you can see what is genuinely different and what is just new. For things like technology, practice aids, and lessons, I usually review them in isolation and focus on whether they bring any real benefits to my game. I also challenge my assumptions by testing things I do not expect to like, and that is often where the biggest surprises and lessons show up.
Posts here take a few forms. Some are straightforward reviews. Some are comparisons, practice ideas, or lesson notes that made it to the first tee. And sometimes it is the bit that happens after the round, when you replay decisions, patterns, and the stories you tell yourself.
